Screens: the allies of functionality (and decoration) in the bathroom

January 24, 2018

With a minimalist aesthetic that allows its integration and the circulation of light, the new models favor comfort and keep spatter at bay.

Our feelings towards them are torn between love and hatred. On the one hand, we would like to do without them, but on the other, we need them to maintain cleanliness and order in this space of the house. These mixed feelings seem to mark the designs of the new screens. The idea is that they are there, but that it does not look like it.

Life behind glass

Because let's not kid ourselves, his role is fundamental in the current bathrooms. They protect from splashing water - preventing a puddle from ruining the floor and damaging your furniture - they guarantee hygiene and cleanliness, and they result - once you have given them an opportunity - extremely comfortable. If these arguments still do not convince you, think about the other two solutions at your fingertips: curtains and work walls. You really do not prefer a screen?

Success in choosing it

For both the shower and the bathtub fans, the perfect screen must adapt to your needs. For example, if you have children, they are very practical those that are divided in two and allow you to wash your head or manipulate the taps. The conditions of the space are also important: the meters, the distribution, the particularities of your bathroom: a shower tray in one corner or attic hollows, for example, will need another different solution. And, already put to order, try to be easy to clean and maintain. Some brands incorporate a treatment that forms a protective film on the glass, which repels liquids and largely avoids dirt and lime.

Last trends

Less is more, that is why the panels opt for transparency, which allows them to merge with the environment, not 'eat' visual meters and let in light; and by (almost) invisible profiling with right angles and without inferior guides. The glass is, perhaps, the preferred material, for its many practical and aesthetic advantages, although the synthetic ones are another good option, which, in addition, require less care. If you prefer more intimacy, choose a translucent or silkscreened finish, thus allowing the passage of light, but not prying eyes. In addition, almost all manufacturers allow you to personalize them, with digital prints of the motif or photo you choose, with different colors for the profiles or the glass.

Close or not the door

And how to close it? The stars are undoubtedly the sliding models, since they save meters, they allow their opening in all situations -even when there is a toilet or a piece of furniture a few centimeters-, since they do not require an opening angle and are very comfortable in the driving. Of course, its invisibility is more difficult to achieve because they have more profiling.

The wings are the second option in the 'ranking' of favorites. With minimalist designs, they can be opened inwards or outwards, depending on the conditions of the bathroom, and give you a greater sense of space. The rest of the positions are occupied by folding doors and fixed panels, very practical, especially in small bathrooms, although without the aesthetic beauty of the rest.
